Biography
Dr. Alvarado received her Ph.D. from George Mason University and is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Virginia. In the clinical psychology doctoral program, Dr. Alvarado teaches courses in psychotherapy (including experiential psychotherapy and mindfulness), working with diverse and vulnerable populations, psychological consultation, and clinical supervision. She has presented several papers on the multicultural perspective and psychotherapy and has conducted several workshops and seminars on clinical supervision, including multicultural supervision, and mindfulness-based psychotherapy. She has also conducted numerous workshops, on stress management, mindfulness, and coping skills, for businesses and civic organizations. Dr. Alvarado is currently engaged in research examining the relationships between cultural awareness training, mindfulness, and empathy. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Manassas, Va., where she sees adults, families, adolescents, and children. Dr. Alvarado lives in Bristow, Va., with her husband and two children.
